I have contacts that enable us to get access to a drone so hopefully, location and weather dependent, we will be able to use the drone to get the ariel arching shots. This will hopefully make our opening more engaging as the different shot types will appeal to the audience in more ways and add to the atmosphere of disorientation that we are trying to create.
If we are unable to use the drone due to tree coverage etc. we have come up with some alternatives. One of our alternatives is to make a rig that we can use to get an elevated shot from, or climb a tree and use zoom at the same time as moving the camera slowly to create a shot that can double up as a panning shot and a zoom shot.
Another obstacle we have come across is what camera we will use for the static shots (the ones not shot from the drone). I have a personal video camera, however the quality is not as good as it could be. In order to make our film opening more professional, I have asked my sister, who is a student at St. Martin's university, if we could use her camera. If she agrees we will use her camera, but if not, we will use my camera, possibly incorporating the quality of the camera into the storyline, for example, make it into a video diary type film about missing teenagers.
An example of one of these films is Troll Hunter. This film is a good example of a video-diary-like film as it is shot as a a series of entries from the college students' point of view.
